Porsche Reviews

Porsche has been a leading luxury car brand since it was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche, it started as a vehicle design and development company without manufacturing any of it's own cars. One of the first projects was to design a compact and inexpensive vehicle for Volkswagen which gave way for the now famous VW Beetle, it also helped design components and consulting for Harley-Davidson, Opel, Audi which now also belongs to the Volkswagen Automobile Group and Mercedes Benz.

Volkswagen and Porsche collaborated on several projects during it's history until 2007 when Porsche became the largest shareholder of Volkswagen AG and basically changed to the Volkswagen Group company forming one of the largest auto companies in the world which include Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT and Skoda.

Porsche's first branded automobile was launched in 1948, the Porsche 356 with a limited production it was later replaced by the now famous Porsche 911 in 1963. Porsche focused on sporty coupes for the next half century until 2002 when it launched it's first SUV, designed with Volkswagen and based on the VW Touareg platform it launched the Porsche Cayenne making it a staple for luxury SUVs, pioneering a new class of vehicles labeled luxury utility vehicles (LUV). Following the successes of the Porsche SUV Audi later released the Audi Q7 sharing the same platform.

Porsche doubled it's sells after the launch of their first SUV which opened the doors for other projects including the Porsche Panamera the first 4-door sedan which made it's debut Auto Shanghai International Automobile Show in 2007 and was officially released in 2009 beating previous sales projections. Which also paved the way for it's new Porsche Macan compact SUV based on the Audi Q5 platform which can now compete directly with other luxury SUVs including BMW X3 and Mercedes GLK, the Porsche Macan is scheduled to arrive in 2014.

Porsche has also designed various race cars in the Le Mans Prototype used in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, American Le Mans Series and Le Mans Series races. Porsche's well known sporty cars are still the Porsche Boxster, Porsche 911 and Porsche Cayman.
